HLTAID011 Provide First Aid

This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to provide a first aid response to a casualty in line with first aid guidelines determined by the Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) and other Australian national peak clinical bodies. This unit applies to all persons who may be required to provide a first aid response in a range of situations, including community and workplace settings.

We provide accredited training to our students for HLTAID011 Provide First Aid. On successful completion of this course, the participants will have the skills and to effectively Provide First Aid to a range of injuries & illnesses. This comprehensive training of this course will include:

  • How to respond in an emergency situation
  • Providing first aid in accordance with ARC (Australian Resuscitation Council) guidelines
  • Perform the correct procedures for performing CPR using a manikin
  • Communicate and report the details of incident including filling out Incident Report Form
  • How to appropriately use an AED, practical assessment will include unpacking, activating & following the prompts of an AED.
  • Using personal protective equipment (PPE)
  • Social / legal issues including: duty of care, confidentiality, importance of debriefing, need to be culturally aware, sensitive and respectful, own skills and limitations.
  • Managing casualties with the following:
  • Abdominal injuries
  • Anaphylaxis & allergic reactions
  • Choking/airway obstruction
  • Altered & loss of consciousness
  • Asthma
  • Burns
  • Bleeding
  • Cardiac arrest & chest pain
  • Envenomation
  • Minor skin injuries
  • Minor wounds
  • Environmental impact: hypothermia, hyperthermia, heat stroke
  • Crush injuries
  • Eye and ear injuries
  • Drowning
  • Diabetes
  • Head, neck and spinal injuries
  • Fractures
  • Soft tissue injuries including sprains, strains, dislocations
  • Seizures
  • Epilepsy
  • Poisoning
  • Respiratory distress
  • Shock
  • Sharps injuries
  • Stroke

Class Room Based: Pre-Course Work for 13 hours, which includes (Online workbook – reading material, Study-Library, Videos, activity preparation kit) + Classroom Training and practical demonstration of 7 hours (Note: Participant will complete the Assessment in a face to face class)

There aren’t any pre-requisites for this course; however, it is required that the participants/students have sufficient LLN skills to successfully complete the provide first aid training. Participants/students will also be required to undertake practical training and assessments at floor level, which will includes demonstrating CPR on a manikin for a period of at least two minutes. If you have poor mobility or a current injury, please discuss this with us prior to make the booking. Participants must be at the age of 18 years or older to enrol in this course.

On successful completion of this course, Statement of Attainment will be issued to participants for the following units:

    • HLTAID009 Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation
    • HLTAID011 Provide First Aid

The training will be valid for three year from the date of issue; however, you are required to undertake CPR refresher training annually from date of issue.
